If you’re keen on trekking, you are sure to enjoy walking along age-old “drailles” on the mountain-crests with their schistes (mineral rocks) shining in the sun. You’ll also experience the cool feel of streams and of crystal-clear “gours” (puddles of water amid rocks).

You can choose between rows of chestnut-trees standing majestically and the rugged and solitary “plateaux” (high plains) made of granite on Mount Lozere.


Just think of the rich past history of this land, lying on the fringes of the once Frankish kingdom and the land of the Visigoths that originated about Toulouse, and which remained in the hands of the Knights of Malta for centuries!

You will be reminded of a people famous for fighting off their enemies: the Camisards, Huguenots that fought hard for religious independence.

Connoisseurs will appreciate the fine food from the Cevennes, based on local recipes that are both simple and exquisite... handed down from one generation to the next. Here, the art of cooking has become state of the art.
